The purpose of the study was to clarify the signs symbols and meanings of symbols contained in mineral water product advertisements using Charles S. Pierce's semiotic theory. And also to found out the influence of mineral water advertising on consumers. The research used a qualitative method. Data analysis techniques used in the research were observation, interviews, and documentation. The research described the symbols of various video scans of mineral water advertisements and symbol messages contained in mineral water advertisements. There was a different symbol meaning for each video ad scan. and also found out how the influence of advertising on interest in buying mineral water by conducting interviews with customers or consumed mineral water. Researchers also found that consumed mineral water depended on advertising and taste.

THE POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE IMPACTS OF RAMBU SOLO CEREMONY ON MUSLIM COMMUNITY IN TANA TORAJA

This research focuses on the influence of Rambu Solo on the life of the Muslim community in Tana Toraja. Rambu Solo is a funeral ceremony in Tana Toraja, South Sulawesi. This study aims to determine the positive and negative impacts of the Rambu Solo ceremony that occurs in Muslim communities in North Salubarani, Tana Toraja. This research is descriptive qualitative. The data obtained by using data collection techniques in the form of observation, interviews and documentation. Then the data was analyzed using a qualitative descriptive method. Qualitative descriptive method is to explain the phenomena that occur in the field. The results of this study indicate that Rambu Solo not only has a positive impact but also has a negative impact on the Muslim community in Tana Toraja. The positive impact is as an effort to preserve the ancestral culture of the Toraja people before and also as a place to strengthen family relations between communities and inter-religious relations. The negative impact of the Rambu Solo ceremony that occurs in the Muslim community in Tana Toraja is that it can take up free time, drain energy and can spend a lot of material if the person who performs the Rambu Solo ceremony is the closest family. From the results of this study, it can be concluded that the Rambu Solo ceremony can preserve ancestral culture as well as strengthen kinship relations and also strengthen family relations although it can take up free time, drain energy and materials that are not small in number for the needs of the party.

AN ANALYSIS OF SLANG WORDS IN “RAMONA AND BEEZUS” MOVIE

The objectives of this research are to classify the type of slang words, to work out the contextual meaning of slang words, and to spot the functions of slang in Ramona and Beezus movies. This research used a descriptive qualitative method. The source of data of this research used the movie and also the dialogue of the movie. The result showed that there are 47 slang words in Ramona and Beezus movies. The researcher found that the slang words are formed based on the types of slang those are, fresh & creative, flippant, imitative, acronym, clipping. The second of finding was about the social factors and social distant set the contextual meaning of slang words, which are participant and the subject of conversation. As for the third finding, five functions of slang words was found within the movie which are to address, to humiliate, to initiate relaxing conversation, to show impression, and to reveal anger.

SIMILARITIES AND DIFFERENCES IN LOCAL FOLKLORE TOAKALA AND SANGKURIANG

The purpose of this study was to find similarities and differences in the intrinsic elements of the folklore of Taokala and Sangkuriang. The method used in this study is a qualitative descriptive method with an oral literature approach. The results of the study show the differences and similarities between the folklore of Toakkala and Sangkuriang. (1) The similarities are in the characteristic elements of the folklore, setting, mandate, point of view. Characteristics of the folklore Toakkala and Sangkuriang both use animal and human characters. The setting of both folklore is in the old kingdom. The message conveyed by the two stories is not to love excessively. The point of view of the story both use the third person. (2) The differences from the intrinsic elements are found in the theme, plot and setting. The theme in Toakkala's folklore is about a marriage that is hindered by the blessing of parents, while Sangkuriang's theme is about incestuous marriage. The plot in the Toakala folklore is a forward plot, while in the Sangkuriang folklore it uses back and forth grooves. The setting of the Toakala folklore is in Bantimurung District, Maros Regency, South Sulawesi Province, while the Sangkuriang folklore is in Lembang District, Bandung Regency, West Java Province.

This research is about the role of English competence for employees at Tourism Department of South Sulawesi. This study aims to find out the role of English and employees respond to English competence in South Sulawesi. The researcher used a qualitative descriptive method. The data collection technique used is to determine the subject, questionnaires, interviews, data analysis and conclusions. In this study it can be concluded that 62.85% of respondents "agreed" that the role of English is very important for the South Sulawesi Tourism Office and employees. and employee responses to English competence that they need English to develop and introduce culture and tourism in South Sulawesi to various countries in Asia and Europe such as Malaysia, the Netherlands and Spain, so that English can be said to be a second language at Tourism Department of South Sulawesi.

The purpose of this study was to find out what kinds of feminism in Rupi Kaur selected poems. The method used in this study is descriptive qualitative research using a library research. The data sources for this study is Milk and Honey book by Rupi Kaur, articles and journals or websites that related in this study. The results of this study researcher found two kinds of feminism based on Abbot and Wallace’s theory; They are 9 data of Liberal Feminism and 3 poems of radical Feminism. In this research there are 7 poems contains kinds of feminism, In page 22,157,166,173 there are contains liberal feminism, and in page 16,27, and 28 there are contains radical feminism.

This study was conducted to determine students' perceptions of maharatul istima learning during the pandemic and the obstacles experienced by students in learning maharatul istima' during the pandemic. This study uses a qualitative method with data collection techniques of observation, interviews, questionnaires and documentation with the subject of research being Arabic language teachers and students of class X as 21 people. The results of the study "student perceptions of Maharatul Istima Arabic learning during the Covid-19 pandemic at Madrasah As'adiyah Makassar can be concluded to be quite good. From the results of the distribution of questionnaires conducted by researchers. Student responses in terms of interest in learning, the learning process, and student attention are quite good.Even though he got a low score in terms of motivation from the student environment.

This research focused on the problems of writing imla for students of Arabic literature at Indonesian Muslim University. The purpose of this study was to find out the causes of errors in writing imla for students of Arabic literature at Indonesian Muslim University and the problems that were faced by students of Arabic literature at Indonesian Muslim University. The population used in this study was all students of Arabic literature. The sample was 4^th semester students. This research was a qualitative descriptive study, using data collection techniques through observation, interviews, questionnaires and documentation. The conclusion of this study was that there were errors in writing imla for students of Arabic literature, namely linguistic problems and non-linguistic problems. Linguistic problems consist of: 1. the difference between Arabic and Latin script. 2. Lack of understanding of Arabic vocabulary mastery. The problems faced by students in writing imla were: 1. Difficulties in writing when the lecturer read a sentence and some of the students had not been able to write it and had to distinguish one letter from another. 2. Difficulty in determining whether the writing was right or wrong because it still applied an online learning system. 3. Sometimes students are fooled by the short length of writing. 4. Difficulties in neatness and beauty of writing.

THE APPLICATION OF IMLA' METHOD TO THE ARABIC LANGUAGE WRITING ABILITY OF MA AS'ADIYAH MAKASSAR STUDENTS

This research was conducted at MA As'adiyah Makassar aims at finding out the process of applying the Imla’ method and its difficulties on the ability to write Arabic in class XI MA As'adiyah Makassar students This research was a simple qualitative and quantitative descriptive analysis research. Data were collected by observation, interview, documentation and questionnaire methods. The collected data was analyzed by means of reduction, presentation of data and verification or drawing conclusions. The results showed, (1) the application of the imla' method to the writing skills of class XI MA As'adiyah Makassar students, a) before learning, the teacher explained hijaiyah letters that could be connected and not connected; b) the implementation of the imla' that is carried out was imla' masmu'; c) after imla’, the teacher corrects and shows the correct writing; d) the responses given by students regarding learning using the imla' method in class showed that there was an effect of the imla' method on improving students' Arabic writing skills. (2) The difficulty of applying the imla’ method to students' writing ability a) the lack of allotted learning time given during class learning; b) lack of student attention during the learning process; c) lack of student interest in learning; d) students are not yet able to write Arabic with connected letters; e) students have not been able to distinguish the pronunciation of hijaiyah letters that are similar; f) students are still lacking in listening to Arabic reading properly.

This research aims to analyze the sound errors made by TPA Al-Hamzah Makassar students when they carry out reading activities. This research uses descriptive qualitative analysis method. To collect research data, the method used is the method of observation, interviews, documentation and recording. The results of this study indicate that the forms of sound errors in reading the Qur'an: 1. Changes in phonemes using thin (light) sounds instead of thick (heavy) sounds or vice versa. Namely: the use of the phoneme /د/ to replace the phoneme /ض/, the use of the phoneme /أ/ to replace the phoneme /ع/, the use of the phoneme /ه/ to replace the phoneme /ح/, the use of the phoneme /ك/ to replace the phoneme /ق/, the use of the phoneme /س/ to replace the phoneme /ش/,ذ/. 2. The exchange of phonemes that have close articulations. Namely: The use of the phoneme /س/ to replace the phoneme /ص/ and the use of the phoneme /س/ to replace the phoneme /ث/. 3. Words that are often heard but are wrong in pronunciation, namely: pronunciation /أنعمت/ which is read /أنعمت/. 4. The omission of phonemes that function as Mad readings. Namely: the letter /آ/.

This study focuses on the ability to write Arabic calligraphy of Arabic literature students at the Indonesian Muslim University. The purpose of this study was to find out how students' ability to write calligraphy of Arabic literature at the Muslim University of Indonesia is, and what are the factors that influence the ability of Arabic literature students at the Indonesian Muslim University to write calligraphy in Naski script. The population used in this study were all students of Arabic literature. The sample is 6th semester students. This research is a qualitative descriptive study, using data collection techniques through observation, tests, questionnaires and interviews. The conclusion of this study is that the ability to write Arabic calligraphy for Arabic literature students at the Indonesian Muslim University Makassar is categorized as "Poor". With a percentage of 61.75%. The factors that affect the ability of students to write calligraphy are: 1. There is still a lack of student equipment in learning calligraphy, both from the campus and from the students themselves. 2. There is still a lack of students repeating or practicing calligraphy at home. 2. There are still many students who have difficulty learning calligraphy due to their educational background from public schools who do not study calligraphy. 3. The calligraphy material provided is not optimal in full because it is only a specialization course. The factors that affect the ability of students to write calligraphy are: 1. USING CULTURAL ORIENTED MATERIALS IN IMPROVING READING COMPREHENSION SKILL

This research aims to determine the effectiveness of using culturally oriented materials in reading comprehension and to determine students' achievement of literal reading comprehension through culturally oriented materials. This research used quantitative methods with pre-experimental research using pre-test and post-test. The population in this research were all students of class X SMAN 1 Polewali with a total of 385 people. While the sample of this research was taken as many as 35 students. The instrument used in obtaining data is to provide text, namely the pretest, and posttest. This research was conducted over six meetings to improve students' reading comprehension at SMAN 1 Polewali. The data were analyzed based on SPSS 25. From the results of this research, the average post-test was higher than the pre-test 59.83 < 79.58. Proving that using culture-oriented materials is effective in improving reading ability, the percentage of post-test results is higher than the percentage of pre-test results. The results of the t-test = (-13.988) with a df of 34 and a significance of 0.000. Percentage increase obtained 33%. While the results of the questionnaire show that all of the seven research questions prove that culturally oriented reading comprehension is easy to understand and obtains a lot of information by knowing something new by reading culturally oriented material. This research proves that the use of culturally oriented materials in teaching and learning English is attractive to students and can improve their reading comprehension skills. The results of the research found a significant difference between the pretest and posttest scores, which proves that the use of culturally oriented materials has a positive impact on student learning outcomes. This research also found that reading culturally oriented material can motivate students to be more interested in increasing their interest in reading.

The objective of the research was to know the implementation of running dictation method in improving students’ ability in writing and students’ motivation during learning through running dictation method. This research used quantitative method with classroom action research (CAR) approach. In this research, it found out that students’ writing ability was improved 47% from first capability. Some of the reasons students are motivated in learning through running dictation method, one of which is because the use of the methods is not boring.

IMPROVING THE STUDENTS’ SPEAKING SKILLS BY STORYTELLING AT SMP KARTIKA WIRABUANA XX-2 MAKASSAR

The purpose of this study was to find out the effectiveness of using storytelling techniques to improve the speaking skills of eighth grade students at SMP Kartika Wirabuana XX-2 Makassar. The design of this research is pre-experimental. The population of this study were all students of class VIII students of SMP Kartika Wirabuana XX-2. Academic year 2022/2023. Researchers used purposive sampling in determining the sample. VIII grade students consisting of 30 students are the sample in this study. The instrument used to collect data in this study was a speaking test. The data analysis technique used is descriptive analysis with the help of SPSS 24.0. The results of the data analysis showed that there were differences in the mean scores between the pre-test and post-test. The pre- test value was 57.52 and the post-test value was 74.34. There is an increase in the average value of 16,828. The results of the paired sample test are t test = 10,909 and t table is 2,048. The results of the t test are higher than the t table. Thus it can be concluded that Ha is accepted and Ho is rejected. Based on the results of this analysis, it shows that the use of storytelling techniques in speaking skills has an influence on increasing mastery and speaking skills of class VIII students of SMP Kartika Wirabuana XX-2 Makassar 2022-2023.

Teacher motivation relates to the reasons associated with individual intrinsic value for choosing to teach and maintain teaching. This research aimed at finding out the honorary teacher motivation and orientation in teaching English at SMP IT Nurul Fikri Makassar. The honorary English teachers was the informants of this study. This research used the qualitative method with a description approach for details. The data was taken by interview and observation in school. It was found that the honorary teacher's motivations of teaching are love teaching, hope for a great future career, dedication, getting experience, and being a glorious person. The honorary teacher admits that they are less prosperous, but they continue to carry out his profession for these reasons. They hope that what they did while serving material in the class can improve them and their students.

THE CORRELATION BETWEEN STUDENTS’ GRAMMAR MASTERY AND THEIR WRITING ANALYTICAL EXPOSITION ACHIEVEMENT

The purpose of this research were to find out the correlation between students’ simple present tense mastery and students’ writing anaytical exposition text ability. Students’ simple present tense mastery significantly influence analytical exposition writing achievement. This research used a quantitative method. The researcher used two test to collect the data, namely grammar test and writing test. The mean score of the grammar test was 47,5 which classified “very poor” level. On the other hand, the mean score of the writing ability was 54,38 which classified “poor” level. From the calculation by using the Pearson product moment formula, it was found out the rxy 0,804. The results indicated that there was positive correlation between students’ simple present tense mastery and their ability in writing analytical exposition text. Beside that, the result of simple regression analysis of the variables, it was found that the students’ simple present tense mastery gave significant effect in the level of 64,7% toward analytical exposition writing achievement and 35,3% was unexplained another factors. Based on this research, it was suggested that to have a good ability in writing analytical exposition text, students should have a good mastery of simple present tense.

The research objective was to determine the influence of TOEFL listening test as a medium on students' listening comprehension, as well as students' responses to listening comprehension with the TOEFL test. The research method used is descriptive quantitative pre-experimental one-group. Obtained research data with an average pretest score of 52.22 and an average posttest score of 71.11 stated that there is an influence of the TOEFL listening test as a medium for students' listening comprehension. The results the t test = (-17,000), df 8 and a significance of 0.000. The percentage increase obtained was 36.1%. The from the researcher calculations after obtaining data from all student responses, an average of 85.3% (Very High) indicated that the majority of respondents were positive in using the TOEFL listening test at SMA Al Bayan Makassar.

This study aims to determine detoxification among Indonesian Muslim University students in reducing the use of social media in Makassar, and to determine the impact of detoxification among Indonesian Muslim University students in reducing social media use in Makassar. This type of research is qualitative in the form of descriptive. The results of this study note that doing social media detoxification gets various benefits and also the stability of life for someone who goes through it. Therefore, stable use of social media will produce a directed lifestyle. Based on the research results, students have different reasons why they do social media detoxification, some say that when they want to do social media detoxification, students feel a positive impact, especially on mental health and individual well-being.

This study aims to determine the effect of using Whatsapp social media on employee communication performance at the South Sulawesi DPRD Provincial office. This study uses the theory of New Media (news media) and the theory of Uses and Gratifications (Usability and Satisfaction). The type of research used is quantitative research with the data collection process using a questionnaire. Primary and secondary data source types. Data collection techniques were carried out using Reliability techniques and Simple Linear Regression Analysis Techniques. The results of the study show that the variable use of social media WhatsApp (WA) has a significant effect on employee performance at the DPRD Secretariat Office of South Sulawesi Province. The regression coefficient is negative (-0.326) which means that the effect of using WA is negative on employee performance. This means that the higher the performance of using WA, the lower the performance of employees, and conversely the lower the use of WA, the higher the performance of employees.

This study aims to determine the public relations strategy of PDAM Makassar City in handling customer complaints, as well as to determine the supporting and inhibiting factors of PDAM Makassar City Public Relations in handling customer complaints. This study used a qualitative research method with a descriptive approach. Sources of data obtained are primary data and secondary data. Data collection techniques using three ways, namely, observation, interviews and documentation. The results of the study show that the Public Relations strategy in handling customer complaints at PDAM Makassar City is to handle them consistently using SOP guidelines/Customer complaint acceptance schemes, in addition to handling customer complaints technically and with polite and friendly service. The handling of customer complaints by PDAM Makassar Public Relations has proven to be responsive and responsive. Factors that support public relations in handling customer complaints are all aspects involved in the complaint handling process, while the inhibiting factors are customers who complain emotionally, limited training in PDAM Public Relations HR, network and also an IT system that has errors. In the conducted research, the researcher aimed to investigate the communication patterns of the musrif (supervisor) in cultivating the moral character of the students and the forms of moral guidance provided at Darul Arqam Muhammadiyah Islamic Boarding School in Gombara Makassar. This study used a qualitative descriptive research design. The communication approaches utilized were interactive, persuasive, and communicative. The research process involved open-ended interviews, observations, and document analysis, followed by data analysis techniques to understand the communication patterns of the musrif in cultivating the students' moral character and the forms of moral guidance provided at the boarding school. The theoretical frameworks employed in this study included Attribution Theory, BF Skinner's Reinforcement Theory, and the functional group theory. Based on the findings from the research site, the researcher concluded that the observed communication patterns were chain communication, wheel communication, and persuasive communication, which contributed to shaping the students' moral character. The forms of moral guidance provided at Darul Arqam Muhammadiyah Islamic Boarding School include setting a good example, conducting supervision and monitoring, as well as providing guidance and counseling.

THE VALUE OF HALAL COMMUNICATION AND THE INTEREST OF INDONESIAN MUSLIM UNIVERSITY STUDENTS IN SCARLETT WHITENING AND WARDAH BEAUTY ADVERTISEMENTS ON SOCIAL MEDIA

The aims of this study were: (1) to find out the value of halal communication in scarlett whitening and wardah beauty product advertisements (2) to find out consumer decisions and UMI students' interest in the image of scarlett and wardah products. This study uses a qualitative research type using three ways of collecting observation data, interviews and documentation, with the research approach used is communication, with Roland Barthes theory and New Media theory. The object of this research is at the Indonesian Muslim University Makassar, South Sulawesi. The research method used is descriptive qualitative which aims to answer the formulation of the problem. The results of this study indicate that the value of halal communication is in the form of halal certificates, halal labels and ingredients. Respondents realized that product purchasing decisions were judged by the values and advantages of a product, therefore scarlett and wardah products were very different. The results of the interviews collected by Wardah were more dominant in being chosen by respondents than Scarlett in terms of halal. The advantages of Scarlett are currently triggering consumer interest, especially among teenagers. The appeal of Scarlett's products is that one of the influencers from abroad, namely South Korea, is currently the brand ambassador, namely Soon Jong ki, a top South Korean artist who has become a brand ambassador uploaded on Scarlett Whitening's official Instagram account. The results of the interviews collected by Wardah were more dominant in being chosen by respondents than Scarlett in terms of halal. This research aims to analyze the role of Diskominfo in supporting the programs of Enrekang Regency Government as the "Golden City" through its function as a media disseminating information to the public. The research utilizes a descriptive research method with data collection techniques including observation, interviews, and document analysis. The system theory is used to understand the role of Diskominfo, while the excellent in public relations theory is used to understand the role of media publications by Diskominfo. The findings indicate that Diskominfo plays a vital role in providing effective communication channels between the government and the community in delivering information about the programs of Enrekang Regency Government as the "Golden City." Diskominfo acts as a media disseminating information, involving the use of various platforms such as social media, websites, and print publications. Through their role as information disseminators, Diskominfo is able to enhance public awareness of government programs and strengthen community participation and involvement in supporting the success of these programs. The results of this research provide recommendations to Diskominfo Enrekang Regency and related institutions to strengthen their role as effective information disseminators.
