From Assistance to Dependency: The Influence of ChatGPT on the Authenticity of Academic Writing among Final-Year English Education Students

Abstrak

Perkembangan teknologi kecerdasan buatan generatif, khususnya ChatGPT, telah mengubah cara mahasiswa menyelesaikan berbagai tugas akademik, termasuk dalam proses penulisan karya ilmiah. Kehadiran ChatGPT memberikan berbagai kemudahan, seperti membantu mengembangkan ide, memperbaiki tata bahasa, serta meningkatkan efisiensi penulisan. Di sisi lain, penggunaan teknologi ini juga memunculkan kekhawatiran mengenai keaslian karya tulis akademik dan potensi ketergantungan mahasiswa terhadap kecerdasan buatan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengeksplorasi dampak penggunaan ChatGPT terhadap autentisitas penulisan akademik mahasiswa tingkat akhir Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris Universitas Nurul Jadid. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif dengan melibatkan lima mahasiswa tingkat akhir yang dipilih melalui teknik purposive sampling. Data dikumpulkan melalui wawancara semi-terstruktur dan dianalisis menggunakan model analisis interaktif Miles, Huberman, dan Saldaña yang meliputi reduksi data, penyajian data, serta penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ChatGPT dimanfaatkan mahasiswa untuk membantu proses brainstorming, proofreading, pemeriksaan tata bahasa, parafrase, serta pengembangan argumen akademik. Meskipun penggunaan ChatGPT dinilai mampu meningkatkan efisiensi dan kualitas penulisan, sebagian partisipan mengakui bahwa penggunaan yang berlebihan berpotensi mengurangi ciri khas gaya menulis serta kemandirian berpikir. Namun demikian, keaslian tulisan tetap dapat dipertahankan apabila mahasiswa menjadikan ChatGPT sebagai alat bantu, sementara pengembangan ide, analisis, dan pengambilan keputusan akademik tetap berada di bawah kendali penulis. Temuan ini menunjukkan bahwa dampak ChatGPT terhadap autentisitas penulisan lebih ditentukan oleh cara mahasiswa memanfaatkannya daripada oleh teknologinya itu sendiri.
