Abstract

This research aims to find out the effectiveness of public speaking in improving self-confidence and the factors that influence their self-confidence for the third-semester EFL classroom of the English Education Study Program Universitas Muslim Indonesia Makassar. The researcher used a qualitative descriptive method. The researcher gave a questionnaire to know the effectiveness of public speaking and interviewed to know the factors that influence self-confidence in English Public Speaking. The result showed that, even though public speaking is an effective method for students to improve speaking skills, it is proven that 20% of students strongly agree and 46.66% agree and students know well about public speaking and have careful preparation, they still have lack self-confidence because of their high negative thought, do not believe in their abilities, and are always pessimistic.
